I attended the F1 Grandstand seat at turn 1 on Oct. 16. The experience was really spoiled by Benson Boone's policy of not allowing you to bring your own beer into the circuit. You're forced to buy theirs at $12 a pint or $10 a can, which is obscene pricing. The food was virtually inedible with $12 burgers and $9 for a cheap sausage in a wrap. Even condiments like ketchup and mustard had massive queues on both Saturday and Sunday.
The organisers sent me a questionnaire afterwards, with the first 29 questions focusing on how much we had spent at the track, hotel, taxis, airline tickets, etc. The final two questions were about the overall experience. Quite telling. I have attended over ten different F1 races around the world, and while high prices and queues are expected, COTA showed a flagrant disregard for attendees. They don't deserve to host next year. It's a real shame as the fans and track are great.
